Learning about its strange history, I chose to watch the episode of The Outer Limits: Architects of Fear via the ROKU Channel.
This was the third episode of the first season of ABC’s science fiction series. In the late 1950’s into the 1960's, there were several shows with weekly strange plotlines, the most famous was, of course, the Twilight Zone. Others included One Step Beyond and The Outer Limits.
The latter was most famous for its intro sequence warning viewers they no longer had control over their television sets and would not for another hour.
According to Recollection Road, the third program from the series: Architects of Fear was so disturbing that some affiliates blacked it out and others moved it to a later time when children were presumedly asleep.
Aired in October 1963, one month prior to the Kennedy Assassination, Architects of Fear centers on a group of scientists who decide the only way to bring peace in the world is to create an extra-terrestrial monster that all the world will fear. All nations will unite in fighting the invaders and no longer will there be war between races and nations.
The Burlington (Vermont) Free Press described it this way on October 26, 1963:
