Clobber Passages: How Does a Catholic Read 1 Corinthians 6:9

If you were not aware of the term, the clobber passages are those verses in the Bible some preach condemn homosexuals. They say they will not get to Heaven and will be cast into Hell.

Many Christians use the verses against the LGBTQ community and/or force them into conversion therapy. What those Christians do not understand is they are casting them not to Hell but into the hands of the secular community which then seeks to end any influence of Christianity in our nation.

I am Catholic and yes we are Christians but as the first Christian faith and the faith founded by Jesus, we come from a different perspective than so-called Bible-Based Christians. Indeed, many Bible-based Christians say, falsely, we Catholics are not Christian.

Sola Scriptura and the Clobber Passages.

Bible-based Christians teach the sole source of revelation from God is the scriptures. Catholics do not believe this. We believe in scripture and tradition which is the history of living the faith and sorting out our beliefs over time. So, we disagree with many Christians in their interpretation of the Bible. However, we do hold that all of our beliefs must have roots in scripture. So while some Christians reject evolution because it is not in the Bible, we Catholics believe that God created the world…
